Maintaining Your Fatbike for Optimal Performance

Taking good care of your Fatbike is a crucial aspect of enjoying your endless rides. A well-maintained Fatbike ensures a more comfortable and safer cycling experience. Here are some tips for properly maintaining your Fatbike:

Fatbike Tire Pressure

Regularly check the tires: Tire pressure is a key factor in ensuring a comfortable and safe ride on a Fatbike. To make sure the tires are at the right pressure, it's important to check them regularly. Use a tire pressure gauge, available at bike shops or online. Place the gauge on the outer part of the tire to measure the pressure. Check the recommended pressure for your Fatbike tires, as indicated in your manual or online. If the pressure is lower than the recommended value, use a pump to increase it. Keep in mind that tire pressure may vary depending on the type and size of the tire. Check for leaks regularly. If you notice a leak, replace the tire or use tire filler. Regularly checking the tire pressure ensures a comfortable and safe ride.

The average tire pressure is around 2 bar for our Fatbikes. For advice on tire pressure, check our webshop or email us for guidance.

Fatbike Chain Maintenance

Cleaning and lubricating the chain of your Fatbike is a crucial task to keep your bike in good condition. It's important to maintain your chain regularly, approximately once a month, to prevent wear and damage. To clean the chain, rinse it thoroughly with warm water, moving the chain along a soft brush or piece of cloth for a few minutes. Next, apply chain lubricant. Apply a small amount of grease to the links and the sprocket, making sure the grease gets into the links. Rotate the chain and work the grease in, ensuring all links are well-lubricated. Finally, clean the chain with a clean cloth. Apply a small amount of oil to the cloth and gently rub the chain, making sure the links are well-oiled. Regularly maintaining your chain is important to keep your bike in good condition, as a well-maintained chain is less likely to experience mechanical problems.

Maintaining Fatbike Brakes

For maintaining the hydraulic brakes on your Fatbike, it's important to occasionally check if all parts are functioning correctly. For example, check if the brake fluid is at the correct level and if there is no leakage. It's also important to inspect the brake pads and ensure they still have sufficient braking power. When replacing the brake pads, it's important to always replace them with pads of the same quality. To prevent your brakes from making more noise than necessary, it's important to adjust the brake pads properly. Also, make sure the brake pads are clean and that no grease gets on the pads and discs. A good way to clean the discs and pads is by wiping them with a cloth and brake cleaner.

Checking Fatbike Screws

Checking the screws on your Fatbike is very important. If you often ride your Fatbike on cobbles and off-road, screws can loosen. This can lead to parts coming loose. To ensure that your Fatbike continues to perform optimally, it's advisable to regularly check the screws and tighten them if necessary. The frequency of screw checks depends on your riding behavior and the terrain you usually ride on. If you mostly ride on cobbles and don't often go off-road with your Fatbike, it's sufficient to inspect the screws every 3 months and tighten them if necessary. However, if you regularly go off-road or plan to cover a long distance on rough terrain, it's advisable to check the screws before each ride and tighten them if necessary. By regularly checking and tightening your screws, you can ensure that your Fatbike stays in good condition and continues to perform optimally.

Washing Your Fatbike

Washing your electric fatbike is just as important as maintaining a regular bike. Regular washing ensures that both the components and the frame remain in good condition. It's important to wash the bike regularly because dirt, mud, and dust can lead to corrosion and damage to the frame and components. Since a Fatbike has wide tires, it picks up even more dirt than a regular e-bike, providing even more reason to wash it more often!

The best way is to wash your fatbike by hand with lukewarm water and mild soap. Avoid using aggressive cleaning agents, as they can be harmful to the frame and components. Use a soft brush or sponge to remove dirt and dust from the frame and components. Ensure thorough cleaning, especially the chain link. It's recommended to wash your electric fatbike at least once a month. If your bike is often outdoors and regularly exposed to mud and dirt, it's advisable to wash the bike more frequently. Regular washing helps keep the frame and components in good condition.
