Of course, you want to enjoy your Fatbike for as long as possible! Since you use a fatbike more frequently and it has more components that require attention, here are tips to keep your Fatbike in top condition.
In the motor of your E-Fatbike, there are gears with oil in between to ensure smooth operation. With frequent use, the oil level may decrease, requiring a refill. For this, the motor needs to be opened, and when we perform this process, we also clean the inside of the motor.
If your motor makes more noise than usual, don't wait too long; have your motor cleaned and supplied with new oil. Delaying this maintenance can lead to faster gear wear, and prolonged riding without maintenance may cause permanent damage that is unfortunately not always repairable.
It's important to remove your Fatbike's battery monthly. Remove any accumulated sand, dirt, and moisture from the battery, holder, and contact points. If you don't remove the accumulated sand, moisture will remain in the holder, and in combination with electricity, this can lead to corrosion that develops much faster than usual. If you don't clean the battery holder sufficiently, the contact points can be damaged. Our advice is to clean the contact points monthly and blow with compressed air.
Checking the screws on your fatbike is crucial. If you often ride your fatbike on cobblestones and off-road, screws can come loose, leading to parts coming off. To ensure your fatbike performs optimally, it's advisable to regularly check and tighten the screws as needed. The frequency of checking the screws depends on your riding behavior and the terrain you usually ride on. If you mostly ride on cobblestones and infrequently go off-road with your fatbike, checking and tightening the screws every month is sufficient. However, if you regularly go off-road or plan to cover a long distance on rough terrain, it's advisable to check and tighten the screws before each trip. Regularly checking and tightening your screws can help keep your fatbike in good condition and perform optimally.
Regularly washing your electric fatbike is extremely important. Regular washing ensures both the components and the frame remain in good condition. It's important to wash the bike regularly because dirt, mud, and dust can lead to corrosion and damage to the frame and components. Since a Fatbike has wide tires that pick up even more dirt than a regular e-bike, there's even more reason to wash it more often!
It's best to hand wash your fatbike with lukewarm water and mild soap. Avoid using aggressive cleaning agents as they can be harmful to the frame and components. Use a soft brush or sponge to remove dirt and dust from the frame and components. Make sure to thoroughly wash the bike, especially the chain link. It's recommended to wash your electric fatbike at least once a month. If your bike is often left outside and regularly exposed to mud and dirt, washing it more frequently is advisable. Regularly washing your bike will help keep the frame and components in good condition.
Cleaning and lubricating the chain of your fatbike are important tasks to keep your bike in good condition. It's essential to maintain your chain regularly, approximately once a month, to prevent wear and damage to the chain. To clean the chain, rinse it as thoroughly as possible with warm water, moving the chain along a soft brush or piece of cloth for a few minutes. Then, apply the chain lubricant. Apply a small amount of grease to the links and the sprocket, ensuring that the grease gets into the link. Turn the chain and work the grease further in, making sure all links are well-greased. Finally, clean the chain with a clean cloth. Apply a small amount of oil to the cloth and gently rub it over the chain, ensuring the links are well-oiled. Regularly maintaining your chain is important to keep your bike in good condition because a well-maintained chain is less likely to experience mechanical problems.
Correct tension of a fatbike chain is also a crucial factor in keeping your bike in optimal condition. Too tight a chain can lead to damage to the chain and the frame, while too loose a chain can result in lower performance and more wear. Therefore, it's important that the chain tension is always correct. A bike mechanic can easily adjust the tension of your chain, and if you need advice on adjusting your chain yourself, send us an email for guidance!
For maintaining the hydraulic brakes on your fatbike, it's important to occasionally check if all parts are functioning correctly. Check, for example, if the brake fluid is at the correct level; if you can pull your brake lever all the way to the handlebar, the oil level in your brakes is too low. It's also important to inspect the brake pads and check if they still have enough braking power. When replacing the brake pads, it's important to replace them with pads of the same quality. To prevent your brakes from making more noise than necessary, it's important to properly adjust the brake pads. Also, ensure that the brake pads are clean and that no grease ends up on the pads and discs. A good way to clean the discs and pads is by wiping them with a cloth and brake cleaner.
